Lending Policy Movie Restrictions

21 Day (3 weeks) Checkouts: Books, Audiobooks, Music CDs and Magazines

7 Day (1Week) Checkouts: DVDs, Blue-Ray, VHS Videos, Video Games

All items, except Video Games, can be renewed once, unless there is a hold on them.

Downloadable eBook and Audiobooks are also available for checkout from your home computer.

However, no items may be checked out if the patron owes $10.00 or more or has more than 14 items overdue. Computer privileges will also be suspended.

Holds: Patrons may place holds on items using their library card number or username and password from any computer with internet access. The hold may be filled from our library or any Evergreen library. Again student and Reciprocal cards cannot place hold on materials outside the Butler Library. 

R-rated movies may not be checked out to anyone under 17 years old.

Parents may elect to allow their child, under the age of 17, the ability to check out movies rated PG or PG-13 by indicating on the library card registration form. Otherwise, children under age 13 may only check out movies rated G. Children ages 13-16 may also check out PG movies.

Searching the Online Catalog

The default search on our online catalog is to search our library only. If you want to see items held by all of the Evergreen Libraries, you can broaden the search to "Everywhere" or select a specific library to search, such as Waterloo.

Borrowing from Evergreen Libraries

Your Evergreen Library card may be used at the Waterloo, Angola, and Kendallville public libraries or at any other Evergreen library in the state.

There are a few limits on the types of items you may borrow from other libraries and delivered to Butler. The following will not be available via the state-wide delivery service.

  • All items that have been added to another library's collection during the previous 6 months.
  • DVDs, VHS videos, Music CDs, Software, and Video Games

However, you may visit a consortium library and check these items out in person.

Computer Accessibility

Computers are available to the general public. Non library card holders can apply for a free Computer Use ONLY Card. A usage agreement, outlining specific rules as well as consequences for misuse, must be read and accepted to log on to the public computers.

Educational computers are available in the Children's Department. There is no internet access on these computers.

Library Cards
Residents of the City of Butler can receive a library card at no cost. Proof of residency must be prov ided when applying for a card, along with a state-issued ID, such as a driver's license.

Non-Butler residents must purchase a subscription.

Residents of Stafford Township: Individual $86.12 per year Family $96.12 per year
Residents of Wilmington Township :Individual $86.99 per year Family $96.99 per year
Residents of Newville Township: Individual $8.57 per year Family $98.57 per year
AAll other DeKalb Townships :Individual $89.50 per year Family $99.50 per year

The Library Board can reset the fees at their discretion.

The Individual Card is for individuals. Only the individual in whose name the card has been issued may use the card. A custodial parent or legal guardian must sign the application for individuals under the age of 18. Each memeber on a Family Subscription will be issued their own card.

Student Cards: Children living in the DeKalb Eastern School District may apply for a library card at no cost. This includes private school and homeschool students. Student cards can ONLY check out materials from teh Butler Public Library, not from the Evergreen Indiana Consortium libraries.

Replacement fee for a lost card is $2.00.

Reciprocal Agreement with Garrett and Eckhart Public Libraries: If you have a Butler library card and are in good standing, you may obtain a Reciprocal Library card with these libraries at no charge. Student Cards do not apply.

Eckhart and Garrett patrons with Reciprocal Cards at Butler can ONLY check out materials from our library.

ITEM NOTICES:

Patrons with current Email addresses will receive the following Email notices:

  • Email pre-notice sent 3 days prior to the due date
  • Email notice sent on the day the item is due

Everyone will receive the following notices:

  • Overdue notices will be mailed to the patron when an item is 14 days, 28 days and 45 days overdue.
  • A charge of $.50 will be billed to the patron's account for each over due notice sent via the US mail.

When a patron's account balance reaches $25.00 or when an item is 60 days overdue and considered LOST, notices will be sent from Unique Management Service, Inc. A service charge from the Agency will be applied to the patron's account.

  • A patron with a LOST item, due to non-return, will be charge the price of the item, a $10 processing fee and overdue fines of $10. These charges are per item not account.
